Gregory Polanco Q&A

Gregory Polanco is batting .265 with three home runs and 14 RBI as the Pirates begin play after the All Star break. Polanco is only batting .231 in July and is hitting .176 against left-handers.'s George Von Benko caught up with the young outfielder recently.

GVB – You've have gotten your feet wet after the call up in June are you feeling more comfortable?

GP – Yeah everything is good. I'm feeling good.

GVB – What has been the biggest adjustment that you have had to make?

GP – The pitcher's are a lot better than in the minor leagues. They do things differently.

GVB – You've have struggled against left-handed pitching, are you concerned or do you feel that will come with more at bats?

GP – I have to keep working, I have to work on my swing and my approach. I'm just going to keep working.

GVB – You leading off and you have been very patient as a young hitter. Has that patience at the plate developed over time?

GP – I like to take pitches and see how the pitcher is throwing, I like to work the count and not just swing at the first pitch. I like to take some pitches.

GVB – How do you feel about your defense? Are you getting acclimated to PNC Park and some of the quirks in the different ballparks?

GP – I'm adjusting to this field. I work everyday on my defense and I'm getting more comfortable here.

GVB – Your arrival here in Pittsburgh was so anticipated by the fans and the media, has that put any added pressure on you?

GP – No I don't put any pressure on myself. I just play and work hard. I'm just trying to do my best everyday.

GVB – Do you feel accepted here, is this a good clubhouse, a good bunch of guys?

GP – I'm happy here and very comfortable.

GVB – Do you feel the team is going to make a big push after the All Star break?

GP – Yeah we're playing better and we're going to continue to do that and we're going to get better I think.
