The Oakland Athletics have claimed Andrew Lambo off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates have lost Andrew Lambo who was claimed by the Oakland Athletics.

The Oakland A's on Friday claimed Pirates outfielder Andrew Lambo off waivers.

Lambo missed most of the 2015 season due to plantar fasciitis. He finished with one hit in 25 at-bats and struck out eight times.

In 2014, the Pirates tried to convert him to first base, but he struggled at the plate and defensively and spent most of that season in Triple-A Indianapolis.

On Thursday, the Pirates added shortstop Gift Ngoepe to their 40-man roster. If Ngoepe hadn't been added, he would have become a minor league free agent. The Pirates still have four open spots on their 40-man roster.

Pitchers Casey Sadler and Brandon Cumpton cleared waivers and were outrighted to Indianapolis. Both are recovering from elbow surgeries.
