Pirates Cut Eight From MLB Camp, Including Glasnow and Taillon

The Pirates made their first cuts of major league camp Monday.

The Pirates optioned top pitching prospects Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon to Triple-A.

Pitchers Steven Brault, Trevor Williams, Chad Kuhl and Kelvin Marte were reassigned to minor league camp. Top catching prospect Reese McGuire, and spring standout Harold Ramirez, were also sent to minor league camp.

“The future is bright,” Pirates GM Neal Huntington said. “You run Taillon, Glasnow, Kuhl, Brault and Williams out in one setting — that's a very exciting group. … Each one of them brings something that's very, very intriguing. Now you put that group of five together, it bodes well for our future.

“It's a very interesting group for the near future as well as the long-term future.”

The cuts reduce the number of active players in major league spring-training camp to 54.
