Winterball Roundup - 11/5

Corey Young worked a strong inning in the Arizona Fall League on Friday while a handful of Rangers appeared in Venezuela. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Left fielder and nine-hole hitter Jared Bolden didn't get any hits in his second Fall League contest, but he still contributed offensively. The Virginia native was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base.

Bolden's two hitless plate appearances were a failed sacrifice bunt attempt (popped up) and a groundout to shortstop after a seven-pitch at-bat.

Catcher Jose Felix (.324/.342/.432 in nine games) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Felix has just four stolen bases over three professional seasons in the U.S.

Lefty reliever Corey Young kept his AFL scoreless streak in-tact with a perfect nine-pitch eighth inning. Young threw eight fastballs between 89-91 mph and mixed in one 79 mph curveball. He induced an infield popout and two groundouts.

Through six appearances and 5.2 innings with the Rafters, Young has given up four hits while walking one and striking out one. His sinking fastball is getting four groundouts per flyout thus far.

La Guaira designated hitter and cleanup hitter Max Ramirez fanned twice in four hitless at-bats, dropping his average to .275. Ramirez is just 4-for-25 over his last six contests.

Lefty specialist Joe Ortiz didn't surrender a run, but he also didn't record an out. The 5-foot-7 hurler surrendered a single and a walk to the two hitters he faced before exiting the contest.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

Liga Paralela is, essentially, the minor leagues of Venezuelan winterball. It is where the younger players craft their skill and older, more experienced players shake off the rust before going up to the big club.

The La Guaira Liga Paralela club earned a 4-2 victory over Anzoategui on Friday morning. Utilityman Renny Osuna batted leadoff and played right field. He singled once and struck out once in five official at-bats. Left fielder David Paisano hit second, going 2-for-5 with a double.

Second baseman Alex Gonzalez also got the start for La Guaira and was 0-for-4. The 19-year-old played with the AZL Rangers in '09 but was released and re-signed to play for the DSL Rangers this season. Gonzalez posted a .280/.360/.341 line in 42 contests for the Dominican Rangers in 2010.

Dominican Winter League

All three of Friday's scheduled contests in the Dominican Republic were washed out due to rain.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared in Friday's games.

Mexican Pacific League

The circuit has begun its 2010 campaign, but there will be no Rangers players participating this season.
