Arizona Fall League: Surprise 4 – Scottsdale 3
14-12-2, 4.0 GB

Even with a victory on Saturday afternoon, the Surprise Rafters were eliminated from contention for next week's Arizona Fall League Championship Game in Scottsdale. The West Valley Division will be represented by the Peoria Javelinas.

The 14-12 Rafters are already locked into a second-place finish, as the Peoria Saguaros have a league-worst 8-19 mark.

A pair of Rangers farmhands batted eighth and ninth for Surprise on Saturday, and both went without hits. Left fielder Jared Bolden was 0-for-4 with a strikeout, though he did have a run batted in. Davis Stoneburner played first base and didn't have a hit in three trips.

Stoneburner has played one game at first base in 327 games of regular-season professional experience. He played first and recorded one putout with Bakersfield in 2008.

Fabio Castillo (2.79 ERA/.189 BAA) bounced back from a rough outing earlier in the week to work a scoreless frame with one strikeout on Saturday. The only base runner came on a throwing error by the third baseman.

The 21-year-old threw 20 pitches (13 strikes) in the frame. He flashed a 92-95 mph fastball––down a tick from normal––and recorded the swinging strikeout on an 83 mph changeup.

Venezuelan Winter League

La Guaira catcher Max Ramirez continued his big slump on Saturday, as he was 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Ramirez is now 6-for-33 over his last 10 contests, giving him a .257/.349/.400 slash line through 20 games in Venezuela.

Utilityman Renny Osuna entered as a pinch hitter and singled in his only plate appearance. He played second base in the top of the ninth inning.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

Caracas shortstop Edwin Garcia went without a hit in three official at-bats.

La Guaira centerfielder David Paisano batted leadoff and went hitless in four trips.

Dominican Winter League

Reliever Pedro Strop worked a scoreless seventh inning for Cibao, getting three groundouts in between a one-out single to left field.

Miguel de los Santos threw a shutout eighth inning against Licey despite hitting one batter and walking another. The southpaw, who was appearing his his second game, fanned two without allowing a hit.

Licey centerfielder Engel Beltre entered in mid-game––in substitution of starter Emilio Bonifacio––and was 0-for-2 with a strikeout, dropping his average to .333.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Left-hander Alexander Claudio faced one hitter in the ninth inning and induced a 1-3 groundout. The 18-year-old first-year player was making his second career winterball appearance. He now has yielded one run in 2.1 innings this season.

Mexican Pacific League

The circuit has begun its 2010 campaign, but there will be no Rangers players participating this season.
