Winterball Roundup - 12/6

Utility man Renny Osuna flashed some power on Monday in Venezuela while Kasey Kiker struggled with his control in Puerto Rico. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Venezuelan Winter League

Caracas starting pitcher Guillermo Moscoso (3.13 ERA/.205 BAA) had his roughest start of the season, allowing four runs in four innings. The hurler yielded four hits––including two home runs––while walking two and striking out five.

Moscoso has an overall excellent line in his eight appearances (six starts) this winter. He has logged 31.2 innings, allowing 23 hits, walking 12, and striking out 30.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

The Caracas club played a doubleheader against the Navegantes on Monday morning. Shortstop Edwin Garcia (.245/.383/.327) was 1-for-3 in the first game and 0-for-3 with a walk in the second contest.

La Guaira and Aragua also had a twin bill. Centerfielder David Paisano (.280/.333/.360) had a single and a walk in four plate appearances during the first game. Utility man Renny Osuna (.288/.311/.492) played both games, getting starts in left and center field. The 25-year-old combined to go 2-for-6 with a double, a solo home run, and a walk.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Kasey Kiker's control issues appeared to be improving early in the winter league season, but the last couple starts have been a major setback. On Monday, the left-hander walked five batters (and hit one) in 3.1 innings. He gave up two runs on three hits, striking out one.

Kiker (2.52 ERA/.198 BAA) walked eight and fanned 18 over 19.1 innings in his first five outings. But the last two starts have yielded 11 walks and two strikeouts in 5.2 frames.

Reliever Adalberto Flores came on to put out the fire in the fourth, and he eventually earned the victory. The Puerto Rico native worked around two walks to post 1.2 hitless, scoreless frames. Flores has allowed one run in his first seven winterball innings.

Mexican Pacific League
