Winterball Roundup - 12/15

Newly signed Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba got the start behind the plate in Venezuela on Wednesday evening. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Venezuelan Winter League

Catcher Yorvit Torrealba made his season debut with Margarita on Tuesday evening. He went 1-for-3 on Tuesday but was hitless in three trips on Wednesday. Texas recently signed the 32-year-old to a two-year deal worth $6.25 million to become the club's primary backstop.

La Guaira Tiburones designated hitter Max Ramirez (.308/.410/.406) reached base on a single and an intentional walk in six trips to the plate.

Ramirez's club was going up against Andres Blanco's Magallanes Navegantes. The 26-year-old Blanco was 0-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

The La Guaira club posted 13 runs on Wednesday morning, and a pair of Rangers prospects played a big hand in the production. Leadoff man and shortstop Renny Osuna (.266/.301/.481) was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, and five runs batted in.

The 25-year-old Osuna, who scored three runs, helped guide his club to an eight-run outburst in the third inning with a walk followed by a three-run double. He now has seven doubles, two triples, and two round-trippers in 20 Liga Paralela contests.

Centerfielder David Paisano (.294/.330/.382) singled twice in five trips.

Caracas shortstop Edwin Garcia (.227/.363/.333) raised his average with one single in three at-bats.

Dominican Winter League

First baseman Chris Davis (.250/.341/.550) launched a solo home run to break a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. Overall, the Estrellas Orientales slugger was 1-for-3 with that round-tripper, a walk, and a strikeout. He has 11 extra-base hits (including six homers) in 22 contests.

The Toros del Este collected 18 hits in Wednesday's contest, but left fielder Esteban German had just one single in five at-bats. The veteran speedster did pick up his league-leading 19th stolen base in 21 tries.

Aguilas Cibaenas leadoff man Julio Borbon (.250/.313/.303) had a single and two RBI in five at-bats. Borbon is 5-for-39 (.128) with one walk and 11 punchouts over his last nine contests.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Lefty reliever Zach Phillips gave up a double and a walk in two-thirds of an inning, but he didn't let a run cross the plate.

The 24-year-old has made five appearances with Ponce, giving up four runs on five hits in 3.2 innings. He has walked four and struck out one.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared on Wednesday.
