Rangers Winterball Roundup – 10/22

Right-hander Carlos Pimentel worked two perfect innings with three strikeouts in the Dominican Republic on Saturday night. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 3 – Peoria 10

Through 16 overall games in the Fall League, speedy prospect Ryan Strausborger has flashed some pop while showing the versatility to play all three outfield positions. On Saturday, Strausborger played in left field and went 1-for-3 with a double––his third––and a base on balls. He is hitting .281.

Centerfielder Leonys Martin was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and a walk. Elio Sarmiento, who played behind the plate, had another hitless effort in four trips. He struck out once and grounded into a double play.

Pan American Games

The U.S. dropped its first game of the tournament with a 3-2 loss to the hosting Mexico club, which remained unbeaten in the tournament.

Tom Mendonca had a single and the Americans' only run batted in. First baseman Chad Tracy went 0-for-3 before being lifted late for a pinch hitter.

Venezuelan Winter League

Fireballing Magallanes reliever Tanner Scheppers fanned three batters in 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings. He also walked two.

Through four appearances in Venezuela, the 24-year-old has the following line––4.2 ip, 3 h, 1 r, 7 bb, 6 k.

Zuila right-hander Wilfredo Boscan suffered his first loss of the season in his second start. He surrendered four runs in 2.2 innings, giving up three hits, walking four (one intentional), and striking out two.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

There were no games on Saturday.

Dominican Winter League

Although Carlos Pimentel had a rocky state-side season in 2011, his winterball campaign is off to a fantastic start. The 21-year-old righty added two more perfect innings––fanning three–-to pick up the victory.

Pimentel has yet to surrender a hit in 5.2 innings over three appearances, walking one and striking out six.

Licey's Engel Beltre was 0-for-1 with two walks. He was caught stealing once.

Mexican Pacific League

Obregon closer Cody Eppley earned his third save despite a rocky ninth inning. The sidearmer gave up two runs while throwing 31 pitches in the frame, working around three hits and a walk. He also struck out one.

Jose Felix singled once and walked once in five plate appearances. The backstop had his third passed ball of the season.

Puerto Rican Winter League
