Rangers Winterball Roundup – 10/28

Lefty specialist Joe Ortiz did his job in the La Guaira bullpen once again on Friday, retiring the only hitter he faced. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 5 – Phoenix 11
15-6, 5.0 GU

The Saguaros took an early lead after posting a five-spot in the bottom of the third, but Phoenix came storming back with nine late-inning runs.

Third baseman Mike Olt (.297/.356/.625) provided some production in the early going, as he went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Olt is up to 22 RBI through 15 contests.

Ryan Strausborger and Leury Garcia––the eight- and nine-hole hitters, respectively––both went hitless in four at-bats. Garcia struck out twice.

Venezuelan Winter League

Lefty specialist Joe Ortiz did his part in La Guaira's one-hit shutout of Caracas. Ortiz retired the only batter he faced on a popout to second base.

Dominican Winter League

Escogido left fielder Julio Borbon went hitless in four at-bats, striking out twice. The 25-year-old speedster is 3-for-16 with a triple and a homer in his first five games this season.

Carlos Pimentel also suffered the loss for the Leones, as he surrendered his first run. Pimentel gave up that run after walking a batter in two-thirds of an inning. Though he's allowed a run, he hasn't surrendered a hit in 7.1 frames.

Licey's Engel Beltre entered as a pinch runner in the eighth inning but did not have a plate appearance.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in the circuit on Friday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

No Rangers appeared on Thursday. There likely won't be many Rangers in the league, as the club is currently having instructional league at its Dominican Republic complex.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Begins November 4.
