20-8, 7.5 GU
The Saguaros lost for only the eighth time in 28 games this season. After Monday's loss and Peoria's rainout, which will not be rescheduled, their magic number to clinch a spot in the Arizona Fall League Championship Game remains at two.
Third baseman Mike Olt (.341/.412/.720) gave his club an early advantage when he belted two-run homer––his league-leading ninth of the season in 20 games––in the first inning. On the day, he would go 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
The UConn prdouct also has 32 runs batted in during those 20 games, and he currently has a 10-game hitting streak, batting .410/.468/.872 during that stretch.
Right fielder Ryan Strausborger, who is batting .321, had one single in four at-bats. Leury Garcia played second base and was hitless in three trips.
Reliever Evan Reed, who was traded to Florida in the Jorge Cantu deal just prior to the 2010 trading deadline, pitching well for Surprise this fall. The former Rangers' third-round pick underwent Tommy John surgery almost immediately after the trade.
?The 25-year-old Reed made his return late in the regular season, and he has been dominant so far in the AFL––12.2 innings, 8 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, 16 strikeouts. Reed is flashing excellent command of a lively 95-97 mph fastball to go along with a mid-80s slider and a splitter. While his velocity is up only a slight tick from his time at Double-A Frisco last season, his command and secondary stuff has continued to progress.
The league was dark on Monday.
Centerfielder Engel Beltre got the start and batted ninth for the Tigres del Licey on Monday evening. He had a single and a walk in four plate appearances with an RBI.
The 22-year-old Beltre now has four walks (and six strikeouts) in 23 official at-bats during this winterball season.
