Mike Olt (.344/.418/.774) socked yet another home run––his 12th in 23 Arizona Fall League games and only 93 official at-bats. The third baseman was 1-for-3 on the afternoon.
Olt currently leads the AFL in home runs (12), runs batted in (39), and slugging percentage (.774). Olt has five more round-trippers than the Pirates' Robbie Grossman, who ranks second with seven.
Centerfielder Leonys Martin was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and his fourth stolen base in as many attempts.
As a ‘taxi squad' player, Martin is only eligible to play on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but he is making the most of his opportunity. Through eight games, he is 8-for-28 (.286) with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. He has drawn three walks and whiffed four tiems.
Leadoff hitter and left fielder Ryan Strausborger singled once in four trips, dropping his average to .344.
Johan Yan (3.86 ERA/.233 BAA) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first save. The 23-year-old sidearmer recorded a pair of strikeouts, coming on an 87 mph sinker (looking) and an 89 mph sinker (swinging).
Aguilas del Zuila starting pitcher Wilfredo Boscan (2.42 ERA/.265 BAA) turned in his best outing of the season, hurling six shutout innings on the road. The 22-year-old righty scattered four singles and fanned two without issuing a walk.
Boscan, who split the 2011 campaign between High-A and Double-A, out-dueled Carbies starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano. He has yielded two earned runs or fewer in four of his first five starts with Zuila.
Tanner Scheppers turned in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief in the Navegantes' 12-inning contest against Aragua. Scheppers worked around a hit and two intentional walks.
In the last two days, Scheppers has issued four walks in two innings, but three of them have been intentional. He has 13 free passes and 11 strikeouts in 10 innings this season.
La Guaira's Joe Ortiz didn't surrender a run, but he allowed a single to the only batter he faced during the seventh inning.
Carlos Pimentel walked the only two batters he faced in the fifth inning and surrendered a pair of unearned runs. Julio Borbon was announced as a pinch hitter for Escogido, but he was lifted before his at-bat due to a pitching change.
Toros del Este DH Esteban German, who is a minor league free agent but has played the last three seasons with the Rangers, was 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in his winterball season debut.
Algodoneros de Guasave's Jose Felix helped break out of his slump by getting the start and hitting two singles in four at-bats, raising his average to .156.
Felix also gunned down the only attempted base stealer––one-time Rangers farmhand Jon Weber.
No Rangers appeared in Saturday's games.
