Rangers Winterball Roundup – 11/25

Outfielder Joey Butler, infielder Guilder Rodriguez, and reliever Joe Ortiz all saw action in the Venezuelan Winter League on Friday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise – Season Over

The Arizona Fall League season concluded with Saturday's championship game. There will be a piece reviewing the performances of Rangers prospects in the circuit on the site later this week.

Venezuelan Winter League

Magallanes right fielder Joey Butler got his average back to .250 by going 1-for-3 with a double––his second––and a base on balls. He also struck out and stole his third base.

Guilder Rodriguez came on as a pinch runner in the eighth and swiped his fourth base in five attempts. He was substituted for during the following half inning.

La Guaira's Joe Ortiz got a rare long relief appearance. The diminutive southpaw worked 2.2 innings, giving up a run on one hit and striking out one. He has a 4.26 ERA over 20 appearances and 12.2 frames.

Dominican Winter League

Engel Beltre (.286/.362/.405 in 20 games) got the start for Licey on Friday, batting ninth and playing in center field. The 22-year-old prospect was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt. He drove in a run and struck out once.

Nearly half of Beltre's 20 games have been appearances off the bench, seeing action as a late-inning pinch hitter or defensive replacement. He is 12-for-42 with two doubles, a homer, four walks, and eight strikeouts.

Former Rangers reliever Warner Madrigal, who made only two appearances for Double-A Trenton in the Yankees' system during the regular season, made his 2011 winterball debut by hurling a perfect inning for the Estrellas de Oriente.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared on Friday. Some of the former Rangers and Texas farmhands who did play in Friday's games include Jorge Cantu, German Duran, Wes Bankston, Victor Diaz, Luis Cruz, and Luis Mendoza.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared on Friday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

No Rangers appeared on Friday.
