Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/2

After tossing 1.1 hitless innings on Friday, Escogido right-hander Carlos Pimentel has now yielded only four hits in his first 18 winterball innings. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League

Tigres de Aragua leadoff hitter and shortstop Luis Hernandez went 1-for-5 with an RBI, lowering his winterball batting average to .264 through 37 games. The Rangers signed Hernandez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training this week.

Magallanes right fielder Joey Butler raised his average to .283 with two singles in four at-bats.

Guilder Rodriguez saw action as a late defensive replacement for Lara. He didn't have a plate appearance.

Dominican Winter League

Escogido leadoff hitter Craig Gentry went 0-for-5 with an RBI and a strikeout. The speedy centerfielder has three hits in 15 at-bats over his first three winterball games.

Reliever Carlos Pimentel (1.50 ERA/.077 BAA) walked three batters in 1.1 innings, but he didn't yield a run or a hit while striking out two. Through 18 innings, Pimentel has surrendered just four hits, walked 15, and struck out 25.

Licey's Engel Beltre entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and singled to the opposite field in his only plate appearance.

Catcher Dusty Brown, who was recently signed to a minor league free agent deal, went 1-for-2 with a walk in his first game for the Estrellas de Oriente. Brown also gunned down former Rangers shortstop Joaquin Arias at second base.

Despite Brown's solid performance, the Estrellas suffered a 15-2 loss, and reliever Tyler Tufts was part of the drubbing. The hurler, who pitched at Double-A Frisco this past season, coughed up four runs in two-thirds of an inning, giving up four hits, a walk, and a hit batter. Tufts had logged 1.2 shutout frames in his first two appearances.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in Friday's games.

Puerto Rican Winter League
