Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/4

Catcher Jose Felix saw action at third base on Sunday and did well despite his lack of experience at the hot corner. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League

Joey Butler (.259/.358/.397) appeared as a pinch hitter and struck out in his only at-bat. The 25-year-old outfielder is now 15-for-58 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, eight walks, and 16 strikeouts in his 17 contests in Venezuela.

Dominican Winter League

Julio Borbon played in his first game for Escogido since November 26 and ended up snapping a nine-game hitless streak. The leadoff hitter and left fielder had a single and two walks in five plate appearances. He also stole two bases, picked up an outfield assist at third base, and committed his second error.

Right-hander Carlos Pimentel (1.45 ERA/.074 BAA) didn't allow a run despite walking three batters in two-thirds of an inning. True to form, he didn't yield a hit and recorded both of his outs on strikeouts.

Pimentel now has the following bizarre line in 16 winterball appearances––18.2 ip, 4 h, 3 er, 18 bb, 27 k. In his last four innings, he has walked nine and fanned eight.

Etrellas backstop Dusty Brown went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, holding his average to .333 through three games.

Mexican Pacific League

Jose Felix, who has been a catcher his entire career, entered as a pinch hitter and went to third base on Sunday for Guasave. Felix did just fine defensively in his two chances, getting a fielder's choice at second base before starting an around-the-horn double play. At the plate, he went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared in Sunday's games.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

As usual, there were no weekend games in Liga Paralela.
