Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/8

Catcher Dusty Brown, who recently joined the Texas Rangers' organization on a minor league contract, socked a home run in the Dominican Republic on Thursday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Aragua second baseman Yangervis Solarte went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Tigres' 5-1 win at Lara. Shortstop Luis Hernandez raised his average to .270 with two singles in four trips, including his 11th RBI.

Joey Butler struck out twice, walked once, and was hit by a pitch in his four plate appearances for Magallanes. He also stole his fifth base. In his first 19 games in Venezuela, Butler is 15-for-63 (.238) with three doubles, a triple, and a home run. He has drawn 10 walks and fanned 20 times.

Renny Osuna, who I have been mistakenly referring to as a free agent, actually signed a 2006 contract after he was drafted in '05 and is not a free agent until next season. The 26-year-old infielder appeared as a defensive replacement at first base on Thursday, and he is 7-for-28 (.250) with two extra-base hits in 19 games for La Guaira this winter.

Dominican Winter League

Estrellas catcher Dusty Brown returned to the lineup on Thursday and socked a two-run homer, accounting for both of his team's runs in the 9-2 loss. While he was 1-for-3 at the plate, he also committed his fifth passed ball in only five games.

Multiple reports coming out of Japan suggest that the Seibu Lions are looking to sign Esteban German, who has played in the Rangers' organization for the last three seasons but is currently a free agent. As usual, German has been playing his winterball for the Toros del Este in the Dominican Republic.

Licey's Engel Beltre entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and popped out in his only plate appearance. He also played in left field.

Escogido outfielder Craig Gentry hasn't appeared in a game since December 3. He has played in four games thus far, going 5-for-20 with a double.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in Thursday's games.

Puerto Rican Winter League

There were no games on Thursday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

No Rangers appeared in Thursday's games.
