Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/15

Second baseman Yangervis Solarte had three hits in Venezuela on Thursday while catcher Jose Felix socked a home run in Mexico. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League


The biggest day from a Rangers prospect in the Caribbean on Thursday came from Aragua second baseman Yangervis Solarte, who was 3-for-4 with a double––his fifth––an RBI and two runs scored.

Caracas catcher Yorvit Torrealba went 0-for-1 before being lifted from Thursday's game against La Guaira.

Bravos de Margarita shortstop Alberto Gonzalez was 0-for-5, dropping his batting average to .252. Lara's Guilder Rodriguez came in as a pinch runner but didn't have a plate appearance.



Dominican Winter League


Escogido centerfielder Craig Gentry returned from a thigh injury on Thursday and went 0-for-7 in the 14-inning contest, striking out twice. Left fielder Julio Borbon was 1-for-6 with his second double.

Cibao's Leury Garcia entered the game as a pinch runner in the eighth inning and scored a run, but he was pulled in favor of Jimmy Paredes before getting a plate appearance.

Engel Beltre struck out in his only plate appearance after coming in as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

Estrellas de Oriente catcher Dusty Brown saw his average drop to .217 after he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.



Mexican Pacific League


Catcher Jose Felix has struggled offensively this winterball season and hasn't received much playing time as a result, but he came off the bench on Thursday and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run. Felix is now batting .186 with two round-trippers.



Puerto Rican Winter League


No Rangers appeared on Thursday.



Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)


La Guaira righty Arlett Mavare earned the save in relief on Tuesday afternoon, working two innings and allowing one run. He gave up two hits while walking one and fanning two. The attendance listed in the box score was four.
