Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/16

Outfielders Craig Gentry and Engel Beltre each socked an extra-base hit in the Dominican Republic on Friday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League

Scuffling shortstop Alberto Gonzalez (.244/.305/.381) has played well for most of his 40-game winterball campaign thus far, but after going 0-for-5 on Friday, he is now hitless in 14 at-bats over his last three contests.

Yangervis Solarte (.333/.381/.423 in 24 games) singled once in four trips, extending his hitting streak to seven games. The 24-year-old switch hitter has walked six times against only five strikeouts this winter.

Leones del Escogido leadoff man Craig Gentry tripled for his only hit in four trips, raising his average to .194 in six games. Left fielder Julio Borbon (.171/.256/.289 in 27 games) went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt.

Pinch-hitter and left fielder Engel Beltre (.266/.329/.359 in 32 games) was 1-for-2 with his third double. Because Beltre has mostly been featured off the bench this season, he has only 64 official at-bats in those 32 appearances.

Catcher Dusty Brown went 0-for-1 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt.

Mexican Pacific League

Guasave catcher Jose Felix continued to heat up after coming on as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, singling in both of his plate appearances. The 23-year-old prospect is 13-for-61 (.213) with two doubles and two home runs in 24 games this winter.

Felix has a hit in six of his last seven plate appearances over a five-game span.
