Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/17

Licey outfielder Engel Beltre batted leadoff on Saturday and went 2-for-5 with a double. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League


Lara's Guilder Rodriguez singled in his only plate appearance. The 28-year-old utility infielder has been used mostly as a defensive replacement and pinch runner this winter. He has only 19 at-bats (with three hits) in 23 games.

Aragua second baseman Yangervis Solarte was 0-for-4, dropping his batting average to .317.



Dominican Winter League


Engel Beltre got the start for Licey on Saturday, playing in center field and batting leadoff. The 22-year-old prospect went 2-for-5 with his fourth double. He also struck out twice and was caught stealing once.

Escogido's Craig Gentry singled once in four trips, making him 7-for-35 (.200) through his first seven games. Gentry has walked three times with six punchouts.

Catcher Dusty Brown saw his average drop to .185 after he went without a hit in three at-bats.

Fabio Castillo, who was non-tendered and re-signed to a minor league contract by the Rangers this week, had his first rough outing of the winter. The reliever coughed up three runs in one-third of an inning, giving up three hits and walking two.



Mexican Pacific League


Hot-hitting Guasave catcher Jose Felix had a single and a walk in four plate appearances against Hermosillo.



Puerto Rican Winter League


No Rangers appeared in Saturday's games.



Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)


There were no games on Saturday.
