Rangers Winterball Roundup – 1/7

Julio Borbon helped carry his club to an impressive 8-1 start in the round robin postseason with a multi-hit performance on Saturday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League


Tigres de Aragua shortstop Luis Hernandez, who has batted ninth thus far in the postseason, moved up to second in the club's batting order on Saturday. Hernandez responded by going 1-for-3 with a walk, giving him an even .500 batting average in the playoffs. Second baseman Yangervis Solarte broke out of a mini-slump with two singles and four trips.

La Guaira left-hander Joe Ortiz finished the game for the Tiburones with a scoreless eighth inning, yielding one hit and striking out one.

The 5-foot-7 Ortiz made 26 appearances for the Tiburones in the regular season, logging 17 innings and yielding 14 hits while walking two and fanning 12. Fellow lefties batted just .125 against him.



Dominican Winter League


Escogido leadoff hitter and left fielder Julio Borbon went 2-for-5 with a double, helping carry his club to an impressive 8-1 record through nine postseason games. The Leones are now 4.5 games above the second-place Aguilas and Gigantes.



Mexican Pacific League


There were no games on Saturday.



Puerto Rican Winter League


The Puerto Rican Winter League began its postseason schedule on Saturday, but no Rangers appeared in the game.
