-The Topes won a thriller, blowing two leads before heading into extra innings. Pinch hitter Josh Fields led off the 12th with a walk, though SVS and Jeff Baisley were unable to move him up. However, Luis Cruz played hero and doubled him in before Jerry Sands grounded out to end the inning. Josh Wall came in and retired the side in order with 3 flyouts. Wall has allowed just 4 hits in 10.1 innings this season.
-Aaron Miller was hit hard, giving up 7 runs on 11 hits, after allowing 4 runs in his previous start. Mobile scored two key runs in the 6th that gave them enough of a cushion to prevent a comeback. The Lookouts scored 3 in the 8th on singles from Blake Smith and Travis Denker. However, the offense was retired in order in the 9th.
-Sure, the Quakes lost again. And the offense compiled just 1 run on 2 hits. But the real story was Garrett Gould, who had his best start as a pro. Aside from a solo home run, the 20 year old right-hander was sensational, striking out a dozen batters over 6 innings while allowing just 4 hits and no walks. He now has 40 K's in 22.1 innings, leading the Cally League in both total and rate. The lone run for Rancho came after a Tyler Henson double, a groundout to advance him to third and a wild pitch. Other than that, it was pretty quiet.
-Great Lakes did something that's almost unimaginable: outhit their opponents by 9 and still manage to lose. Matt Laney and Juan Noriega also combined to no-hit their opponents for 8 innings, following the leadoff batter in the 2nd inning. Kane County scored 3 runs on 4 hits, while the Loons scored just twice on 13 hits, though all but one were singles. The team went 2 for 11 with RISP and left 11 on base. Matt Laney pitched decently enough, with Juan Noreiga following with 2 hitless innings. Noriega has extended his shutout streak to 14 innings. Speaking of streaks, a James Baldwin single in the 7th saw his hitting streak reach 8 games. Jesus Arrendondo had 3 hits, raising his batting average to .343.
