Rangers Winterball Roundup – 10/23

Algodoneros de Guasave catcher Jose Felix is better known for his glove than his bat, but he produced on Tuesday by going 3-for-4 with a double. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 5 – (@) Salt River 4 (10 innings)

First baseman Chris McGuiness was the only Rangers position player to appear in the Saguaros' extra-innings victory at Salt River Fields. He went 0-for-3, striking out once, but drew a pair of walks.

Left-handed reliever Jimmy Reyes threw 13 of his 17 pitches for a strike in a perfect sixth inning, fanning one. The 23-year-old Reyes has yet to permit an earned run in six Fall League innings. He's allowed five hits and struck out four without walking a batter.

Ben Rowen retired the only batter he faced via groundout. The submarining right-hander is being used in short relief for Surprise thus far––five of his first six appearances have been less than one inning.

Dominican Winter League

Two of the three games in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday were postponed due to rain. No Rangers appeared in the Escogido/Toros game.

Venezuelan Winter League

No Rangers appeared in LVBP on Tuesday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

In a game that featured four Rangers farmhands, Magallanes pounded Caracas 10-0, holding the Leones to just three hits in the shutout effort. Magallanes shortstop Elio Castillo singled and drove home a run in five at-bats. Shortstop Edwin Garcia (0/3), second baseman Santiago Chirino (0/2) and DH Tomas Telis (0/3) all went hitless for Caracas.

Tiburones first baseman Jhonny Gomez continued to produce with some surprising power on Tuesday, as he went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. He also committed an error in the field.

Mexican Pacific League

Mazatlan cleanup hitter and right fielder Joey Butler had his first hitless game in Mexico, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. The 26-year-old Mississippi native is now 4-for-13 (.308) with a home run in his first four contests.

Butler played this past regular season with Triple-A Round Rock, where he posted a .290/.392/.473 slash line in 137 games. Butler hit 28 doubles, one triple, and a career-high 20 home runs. He also drew 79 walks and struck out 128 times.

Guasave catcher Jose Felix, batting ninth, was 3-for-4 with a double and a run batted in.
