As usual, there were no games in the Arizona Fall League on Sunday.
Second baseman Leury Garcia went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk from the top of the Cibao batting order on Sunday. Despite the rough game, Garcia is still batting .400 (14-for-35) in his first eight winterball contests.
Nine-hole hitting left fielder Engel Beltre was the star of the game for Licey, as he picked up three singles and a triple in four perfect plate appearances. Beltre gunned down Escogido first baseman Mauro Gomez at third for an outfield assist, and he was also caught stealing once.
The 22-year-old Beltre was making his first appearance for Licey in eight days, but he is off to a strong start overall. He's now 8-for-16 (.500) with a double and two triples in six games.
Cleanup hitter Mike Olt, playing in right field, had a double and two walks in five trips. He also struck out twice. Centerfielder Leonys Martin was 1-for-5, striking out twice as well.
Escogido reliever Carlos Pimentel picked up a hold despite allowing a run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. After Pimentel struck out Tim Federowicz, he allowed a single to Engel Beltre and a triple to Dee Gordon before getting Anderson Hernandez to ground into a fielder's choice.
No Rangers appeared in Venezuela on Sunday.
Although the Liga Paralela had games scheduled on Sunday, the circuit's website was not working.
Getting the starting nod behind the plate for Guasave, Jose Felix went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. He also threw out the Caneros' only attempted base stealer.
