With their third consecutive victory, the Saguaros have pulled to within a half game of the first-place Peoria Javelinas. Only two Rangers prospects–-first baseman Chris McGuiness and shortstop Hanser Alberto––took part in the game.
McGuiness, batting cleanup, went 0-for-3 but had two RBI. He drove home one run on a sacrifice fly and another on a groundout. Alberto, batting ninth, singled twice in four at-bats. He also drove home a run.
Alberto was caught stealing for the third time in the AFL campaign, and he also committed his third error in 10 games. During those first 10 games, the 20-year-old Alberto is 11-for-33 (.333) with a triple. He's walked twice, struck out three times, and stolen two bases in five attempts.
Although the Dominican Winter League doesn't typically play games on Mondays, they'll presumably be doing so for the next few weeks while making up a number of recent rainouts.
There were two games in the circuit on Monday, and one Rangers prospect appeared––Gigantes del Cibao infielder Leury Garcia.
Batting leadoff and playing at second base, Garcia went 1-for-4 with his fourth double. He also laid down a sacrifice bunt.
There were no games in Venezuela on Monday. Right-handed pitcher Richard Alvarez, who had thrown well in three starts with the Caracas Liga Paralela club, was called up to the Leones' LVBP club for at least the next week.
While the rosters in the Dominican Winter League change on a daily basis, things are done differently in Venezuela. Each team submits a 34-man active roster at the beginning of every week in LVBP.
For the second consecutive day, the Liga Paralela website was down and box scores were not available.
The Mexican Pacific League was off on Monday.
Begins November 8.
