The Saguaros dropped Monday afternoon's game after coughing up five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Although Surprise lost the contest, all four Rangers prospects in action played relatively well.
Fresh off Saturday's appearance in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game, first baseman Chris McGuiness (.306/.405/.516) drove home three of the Saguaros' five runs while going 2-for-3 (both singles) with a walk.
Shortstop Hanser Alberto (.378/.408/.489) doubled for his only hit in four trips. He also committed a fielding error, his fourth of the Fall League campaign.
True to form, Alberto has flashed an impressive hit tool with an aggressive approach but a high contact rate this fall. He's walked just twice but struck out only three times in 13 games.
Lefty reliever Jimmy Reyes (0.00 ERA/.167 BAA) worked around a single in an otherwise clean, scoreless two innings. He fanned one.
According to the Surprise Stadium pitch f/x data, Reyes showed an 89-92 mph fastball to go along with an upper-70s, low-80s slider and a low-80s changeup. He threw 15 of his 20 pitches for a strike and induced five swings and misses during the short outing.
The 23-year-old Reyes has some intrigue as a left-handed middle relief prospect due to his decent-but-funky stuff that includes some life and deception. He's pounded the strike zone in seven AFL appearances––10.0 ip, 6 h, 0 er, 0 bb, 7 k.
Submarining righty Ben Rowen (5.19 ERA/.206 BAA) got a groundout and a strikeout to finish the top of the ninth. He flashed an 80-83 mph sinking fastball with a slider at 74 mph.
Licey leadoff man Leonys Martin singled twice and struck out twice in his four plate appearances on Monday. The centerfielder also picked up an outfield assist by erasing a runner at second base.
Through his first 14 winterball games, the 24-year-old Martin is 14-for-54 (.259) with two doubles and two home runs. He's drawn seven walks, struck out 11 times, and stolen four bases in five attempts.
Left fielder Engel Beltre, batting ninth, struck out twice in three hitless plate appearances. Despite the rough outing, he's hitting .364 in 11 games.
Mike Olt sat out of the lineup for a second consecutive day. He was forced to leave Saturday's contest after being hit on the head with a pitch.
The LVBP was off on Monday.
Caimanes centerfielder Diego Cedeno highlighted the day for Rangers prospects in Liga Paralela, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three runs batted in. The club's leadoff hitter currently sports an impressive .324/.444/.405 slash line through 45 plate appearances.
First baseman Tomas Telis (1/4) and shortstop Edwin Garcia (1/4) both singled once in four at-bats for Caracas. Telis drove home a run.
Versatile Magallanes youngster Elio Castillo got the start at DH on Monday and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Although Castillo was an impressive performer in the Dominican Summer League during the regular season, he's just 8-for-44 (.182) without an extra-base hit in 14 Liga Paralela contests.
The Tiburones/Navegantes box score was not available on the Liga Paralela website.
There were no games in Mexico on Monday.
Begins November 8.
