Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/16

Outfielder Hirotoshi Onaka appeared for the World club in Sunday's Australian Baseball League All-Star Game. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Dominican Winter League

Hot-hitting Cibao right fielder Nelson Cruz raised his batting average to .375 by going 2-for-3 (both singles) with another walk. While Cruz hit cleanup for his club on Sunday, third baseman Hanser Alberto batted eighth. He was 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being lifted in mid-game.

Licey's Engel Beltre socked his seventh triple of the winterball campaign in his lone plate appearance.

Venezuelan Winter League

There were no games in Venezuela on Sunday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

As usual, Liga Paralela is not playing games during the weekend. They'll return to action on Monday afternoon.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Sunday.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Ponce and Caguas played a 15-inning marathon on Sunday. The only Rangers player to start in the contest was nine-hole hitting catcher Kevin Torres, who whiffed twice in five hitless at-bats. He also laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Behind the plate, Torres committed a throwing error and gunned down one of two attempted base stealers.

Zach Zaneski and Jared Hoying both got a pinch-hit appearance, and both went 0-for-1.

Sidearming southpaw Alexander Claudio worked a perfect 13th inning, striking out one and lowering his ERA to 4.41.

Australian Baseball League

Sunday's ABL All-Star Game matched up Team Australia with the World All-Stars. Japan native Hirotoshi Onaka batted ninth and manned center field for the World side. The switch-hitter went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout.
