Abdul Beecham has received plenty of interest during the past couple of months, but did not hold an offer until a few days ago, when the satellite camp circuit grind paid off for the 2015 offensive guard from traditional power Converse Judson near San Antonio.
Beecham informed Scout.com that North Texas was the first program to offer him.
"The North Texas offer came after I attended their camp held in San Antonio" last week, Beecham said. "Out of eight camps they held in June they only offered 2 offensive linemen and I was one of them."
The other was Marshall (Texas) 2015 offensive tackle Chett Munden, a 6-foot-6, 303-pounder who also got his first FBS offer from the Mean Green.
"It felt fantastic to get my first offer. I have been receiving alot of interest from colleges since my sophomore year. I have attended games for Notre Dame, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, UTSA and others, and I have attended junior days for Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, UTSA, and Texas State," Beecham said. "However none of the schools offered. I know it is a slow, tedious process to extend an offer but with the amount of mail, texts, Twitter DMs and coaches visits to my high school, I thought an offer or offers would have been extended by now.
"So the North Texas offer was exciting in that regard and the coaches really like me. Head coach Dan McCarney compared me to his three-time all-conference and guard Cyril Lemon."
The 6-foot-3, 282-pound Beecham said he visited North Texas with his parents for Fathers Day.
"The visit was great, the facilities were outstanding, and the academics are one of the best in the nation," Beecham said. "The coaches told me I am the No. 1 interior lineman they want."
However, he admitted that with North Texas being the first to offer and the visit being an impressive one, "North Texas is No. 1 on my list right now."
Iowa State, UTSA, and Houston have been the other schools that have shown Beecham the most recent interest other than North Texas.
Scout will stay on top of Beecham's recruitment as it progresses this summer.
