Rangers announce Instructional League roster

The Texas Rangers announced their roster for 2007 Fall Instructionals on Friday night. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at the 45 young prospects descending on Surprise in late-September.

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports the Texas Rangers will be sending 45 of their brightest young prospects to Surprise, Arizona for the Fall Instructional League. The league, which features a 17 game schedule, kicks off on October 1 and concludes on October 20. Players will report to Arizona for a seven day mini-camp beginning September 23.

The roster includes 23 pitchers, five catchers, 12 infielders, and five outfielders.

All minor leaguers acquired in the deadline trades of Kenny Lofton, Eric Gagne, and Mark Teixeira will be working out in Surprise this offseason. The one player who will not be participating in instructionals – left-handed pitcher Matt Harrison – will play for the Surprise Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.

Also included in the roster are six players who will make their professional debuts. Pitchers Blake Beavan, Neil Ramirez and Kyle O'Campo were all picked in the 2007 MLB Draft, but signed 2008 contracts. The others – LHP Martin Perez and shortstops Wilson Suero and Tomas Telis – were regarded as three of the top amateur prospects out of Latin America this year.
