Winterball Roundup - 10/10

The Rangers hitters owned the Arizona Fall League on Wednesday, as Surprise won a slugfest over the Peoria Javelinas. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Hawaii Winter Baseball: West Oahu 5 – Honolulu 5 (11 innings)
2-6-1, 3.5 GB

Jose Marte pitched his best game of the winter, hurling 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The tall right-hander yielded two hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out four.

Leadoff hitter Craig Gentry recorded his second extra-base hit in Hawaii Winter Baseball, as he was 1-for-5 with a double and a walk. Gentry also recorded an outfield assist in the game.

Right fielder K.C. Herren went hitless in five at bats. He walked once.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 14 – Peoria Javelinas 11

Third baseman German Duran fell just a triple short of the cycle, as he went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run. He also walked in the contest.

Backstop Taylor Teagarden came through with a solid effort in his first Arizona Fall League game. The former Texas Longhorn singled, homered, and walked in five trips. He knocked in three runs on the day.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus tripled in his first AFL at bat, but was held hitless the rest of the day. The 19-year-old finished 1-for-5.

Slugging outfielder John Mayberry also started and went 0-for-2, but he walked three times.

Left-handed pitcher Matt Harrison appeared in his first game since joining the Rangers organization. The former Braves prospect got the starting nod and surrendered two runs on five hits in three innings. He walked one and struck out four.

Mexican Winter League

DH Jason Botts appeared in Obregon's first game and was 1-for-4 with a free pass. He was also caught stealing.

Six-year free agent Randy Williams – who spent most of his 2007 season with Triple-A Oklahoma – tossed a scoreless inning of relief for Mazatlan.

Former Rangers farmhand Jason Bourgeois (2nd round, 2000) hit leadoff for Mochis and went 0-for-3 with two walks. Bourgeois – a Houston native – spent the 2007 season in the White Sox organization.
