Minor League Roundup - 4/24

The Frisco RoughRiders earned their 15th win of the season on Thursday as they picked up a dramatic extra-inning victory. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma 5 – Albuquerque 11
L – Hurley (1-1)
15-6, 2.0 GU

Kometani has been inconsistent thus far.
Eric Hurley's (6.93 ERA/.327 BAA) 2008 struggles continued on Thursday, as he surrendered three home runs in just five innings. The prospect ended up allowing six runs on seven hits, walking one and fanning eight.

Left fielder Brandon Boggs (.333/.394/.492) reached base in all four plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk.

Ryan Roberts (1/4, 2B) and Nelson Cruz (2/5, 2B) each doubled in the game.

Kea Kometani (4.32 ERA/.258 BAA) didn't allow a run despite giving up two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. He struck out two.

AA: Frisco 7 – San Antonio 6 (10 innings)
W – Batista (2-1)
HR – Davis (6), Fox (3), Mayberry (3), Frostad (1)
15-4, 3.5 GU

John Bannister had issues in his first Double-A start, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks in three innings. The right-hander, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, struck out two batters.

Mayberry is heating up.
But Bannister didn't suffer the defeat, however, as the outstanding Frisco offense was able to bail its starter out.

Second baseman Adam Fox (.333/.393/.627) was 2-for-4 with a triple and his third home run of the season. Fox hit only six home runs in 274 at-bats with the ‘Riders last season.

John Mayberry (3/5, HR) and Emerson Frostad (1/3, HR, BB) also went deep.

First baseman Chris Davis hit the game's most important round-tripper with a walkoff solo shot in the bottom of the 10th inning. The bomb was Davis' sixth of the season, putting him into a tie with teammate Max Ramirez [along with Jonathan Zeringue and Kila Kaaihue] for tops in the Texas League.

Refusing to cool down, left fielder Steve Murphy went 2-for-5 with a double.

Closer Warner Madrigal blew his first save of the season after allow a solo home run in the ninth inning. He went two total innings, allowing just that one run.

Reliever Kendy Batista followed Madrigal with one scoreless inning to earn the victory.

W – Hunter (2-3)
SV – Hamilton (2)
HR – Whittleman (2)

Hunter worked into the eighth inning.
Facing Angels hurler John Lackey, who was making a rehab start, third baseman John Whittleman hit his second home run in as many days. Whittleman would wind up going 2-for-3 with a walk on the evening.

RF Grant Gerrard (2/4, BB) and SS Marcus Lemon (2/3, 3B, HBP) also reached base three times. Lemon drove in three runs with a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning. The knock put the Blaze on top for good.

Julio Borbon doubled for his only hit in five at-bats.

Starter Tommy Hunter earned the victory after surrendering four runs on 10 hits in 7.1 innings. He walked one and struck out four. Hunter pitched extremely well outside of allowing a pair of runs in both the second and eighth innings.

Clayton Hamilton fanned three in 1.2 perfect innings to earn the save.
