21-12, 2.5 GU
Wednesday's game was postponed due to rain. The two teams will make it up by playing a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 p.m. Central on Thursday.
L – Schlact (1-2)
22-10, 3.5 GU
Michael Schlact may have been hung with the loss on Wednesday, but he turned in one of his better starts of the year.
The 6-foot-8 right-hander needed 104 pitches to complete seven innings. He gave up just two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three.
Right fielder Dustin Majewski (.310/.375/.479) was the offensive star, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
DH Ben Harrison and CF Craig Gentry also doubled.
Elvis Andrus (1/3, BB) reached base twice and stole his ninth base of the season. Andrus has quietly put together an eight-game hitting streak, though he has just nine hits – all singles – in that span.
Reliever Kendy Batista (2.93 ERA/.241 BAA) fanned two in a scoreless inning.
W – Reed (2-1)
SV – Diaz (1)
19-14, 5.0 GB
Evan Reed broke a string of rough outings on Wednesday evening by posting his first quality start with the Blaze. The Cal Poly product allowed two runs in six innings. He gave up six hits, walked three, and struck out five.
Leadoff hitter Julio Borbon was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, four RBI, and a stolen base. Borbon got off to a slow start – including a foot injury – but he is sporting a cool .368/.410/.491 line during his current 12-game hitting streak. Borbon has struck out just three times during the streak.
Another Blaze hitter that is slowly heating up, LF K.C. Herren, went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBI.
Catcher Manny Pina (.270/.329/.324) was 3-for-5 with a double.
Marcus Lemon (2/5, BB), Grant Gerrard (2/6, 2 2B), John Whittleman (2/4, BB), and Mauro Gomez (2/5) also had multiple hits.
21-7, 2.0 GU
The final game of the L-Kings' three-game series in South Bend was washed out. Clinton returns home for a four-game series against the last-place Peoria Chiefs.
