Minor League Roundup - 5/19

The Rangers' minor league affiliates went 3-0 on Tuesday with excellent performances all around. Justin Smoak's three-run homer and Michael Kirkman's 11 strikeouts highlighted the day. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

The RedHawks get a rare two days off in mid-season. They'll travel to Las Vegas for a series that begins on Thursday evening.

The RoughRiders picked up their second consecutive ten-inning, 7-6, come-from-behind victory over Midland.

Guillermo Moscoso got the start, and he yielded three runs on four hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Centerfielder Craig Gentry (3/5, HR) led off the game for Frisco with a home run. He also singled twice in the later innings.

Ben Harrison (2/4, 2B) and Guilder Rodriguez (1/4, 2B) both doubled.

Chad Tracy (2/5) and Adam Fox (2/4) both singled twice.

DH Justin Smoak went 2-for-5 with a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Andrew Laughter fanned one in a perfect eighth inning.

Brennan Garr picked up the win after he yielded one run on two hits in two innings. He fanned two and walked one.

Michael Kirkman (2.06 ERA/.244 BAA) has been outstanding all season, but he had perhaps his best start of the year on Tuesday.

The southpaw was simply overpowering, as he tossed seven scoreless innings and gave up just three hits. He walked two and struck out 11 batters.

In 48 innings this season, Kirkman has allowed only one home run. He has walked 18 and struck out 54.

DH Mauro Gomez was just 1-for-5, but he blasted his third home run in as many games, giving him eight on the season.

Jonathan Greene was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. After a slow start, the third baseman now has seven extra-base hits in his last five games.

Right fielder Joey Butler (3/5, 2B) and second baseman Matt Lawson (1/3, 2B, BB) both doubled.

Renny Osuna was 2-for-4 with his first triple of the season.

Left fielder Cody Podraza singled twice in four at-bats.

Wilmer Font (1.57 ERA/.220 BAA) gave up one run on five hits in 4.2 innings, walking three and striking out six. The 18-year-old righty hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in a game all season.

First baseman Erik Morrison was 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in.

Mike Hollander (1/4) and Eric Fry (3/4) had the team's other two RBIs.

Closer Matt Nevarez (1.38 ERA/.095 BAA) tossed four hitless innings, walking zero and striking out four.

Nevarez has gave up just four hits in 13 innings this season. He has walked five and struck out 19.
