Winterball Roundup - 10/16

Tanner Scheppers showed off his dominant fastball in the Arizona Fall League on Friday, while the Dominican Winter League began play with a home run from Mauro Gomez. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 7 - (@) Mesa 3

Tanner Scheppers got his first outing in Fall League action, and he was as good as advertised. The former Fresno State standout hurled two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out two. His fastball sat between 95 and 98 mph.

Mitch Moreland got into his first game, batting third and playing designated hitter. He was 0-for-3 with a pair of walks.

Marcus Lemon played in centerfield. He was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers saw action on Friday evening.

Venezuelan Winter League

La Guaira leadoff man David Paisano had one single in four at-bats. Max Ramirez went 0-for-4, dropping his batting average to .105.

Dominican Winter League

Play began in the Dominican on Friday evening. The following Rangers products are listed on rosters:

Pedro Strop (Cibao), Leury Garcia (Cibao), Nelson Cruz (Cibao), Warner Madrigal (Escogido), Joaquin Arias (Escogido), Frank Francisco (Licey), Andres James (Licey), Omar Beltre (Este), Fabio Castillo (Este), Neftali Feliz (Este), Alexi Ogando (Este), Leonel De Los Santos (Este), Esteban German (Este), Mauro Gomez (Este), Engel Beltre (Este).

Jumbo Diaz and Jailen Peguero are listed as Rangers and are playing in the Dominican Winter League, but they should be minor league free agents.

In the first day of action, first baseman Mauro Gomez got the start for the Toros, and he was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in.

Escogido reliever Warner Madrigal gave up no runs and one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
