John Shelby Profile
According to a tweet by Montgomery Biscuits broadcaster and media relations coordinator Joe Davis, outfielder John Shelby has been released by the Rays.
The 26-year-old, who is the son of former major league player John "T-Bone" Shelby, was acquired on March 29th 2011 from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
Last year for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits, Shelby hit .248/.287/.436 with 16 HR and 52 RBI in 117 games. He played primarily center field for Montgomery where he had a fielding percentage of .989 and 9 outfield assists.
At this time the conditions of his release are unknown, but his exit from the organization helps to clear a glut of outfielders at the upper levels of the system.
