Bowling Green Notebook: Gomez Top Pitcher

In this edition of Bowling Green Notebook: Roberto Gomez is named Minor League Pitcher of the Month, Cameron Seitzer has been on fire in the month of July and despite cooling at the plate, Ryan Brett continues to be a force on the base paths.

Roberto Gomez

Roberto Gomez was named the Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month in June. The Hot Rods were 6-0 when the young right-handed Gomez took the mound during the month. The 22- year-old Dominican was 5-0 in June with a 1.34 ERA. Gomez's success in June was no different from the rest of his season. He is 8-2 with a 2.90 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .253 off Gomez and he has fanned 57 while only walking 33. The Hot Rods and manager Brady Williams have been able to rely on Gomez this season when they need a well-pitched game.

Cameron Seitzer

Cameron Seitzer has been on a roll in the past ten games. Since July 3 he is 14-for-38 giving him a .368 batting average and three RBIs. The Hot Rods first baseman who bats from the left side, has vastly improved his average since the month of May when it was just .256 and he is now hitting .304. The son of former major leaguer and current Kansas City Royals hitting coach, Kevin Seitzer, Cameron shows off a solid line drive hitting swing. He is hitting .297/.379/.417 on the season with 26 doubles and 30 RBIs. Cameron's 30 RBIs are no surprise given his .364 AVG with runners in scoring position.

Ryan Brett

Ryan Brett has seem to hit a slight bump in the road, going just 9-for-40 in the past ten games giving him a .225 AVG. Despite the low average over the past few games Brett still has managed to add seven RBIs to his season total along with six stolen bases while only getting caught stealing once. Brett's July batting average of .283 may be the lowest he's had so far this season, but it is still very impressive. On the season the Hot Rods second baseman is hitting .310/.363/.418 with five homeruns, 27 RBIs and 32 stolen bases. Brett continues to be dominating on the base paths this season, stealing bases at will.
