Rogers: It is such a privilege and an honor to be drafted. This is all just so crazy. I will work so hard to continually get better. I am so lucky to now be a part of the Red Sox organization. I am so happy.
DiehardMagazine.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Red Sox?
Rogers: I really like to establish myself defensively before anything else. Because there are so many good pitchers out there, hitting will come and go. I work really hard in the box but always want to be quick to the ball and effective in the field.
DiehardMagazine.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?
Rogers: I would probably point to my strength as a weakness. I just need to get into the weight room and get bigger and stronger. I want to compete and improve physically.
Rogers: I want to be sure my 60 [yard dash] time is consistent. I ran a 60 in 6.5 [seconds] but that fluctuates too much. I need to be quick to the ball and able to chase everything down fast.
DiehardMagazine.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Sox' fans have an idea of what your game is like?
Rogers: These guys are a lot better than I am, but I'd compare myself to Cameron Maybin or Dexter Fowler when I get bigger and improve my strength.
DiehardMagazine.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Red Sox or were you surprised when they selected you?
Rogers: I am still in shock. I never thought after all the tournaments and innings played that I'd be part of the Red Sox organization. I couldn't be more excited.
DiehardMagazine.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?
Rogers: Outfield is what I love, what I've grown up doing. I think if I work hard and establish my defense early on, I'll stay in the outfield.
DiehardMagazine.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?
Rogers: Right now. Being drafted by the Red Sox is the highlight of my life, hands down. I am so honored. They could have drafted so many other players, but they drafted me in the 28th round. I will work as hard as I possibly can to improve and compete for the Red Sox.
DiehardMagazine.com: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?
Rogers: All of this wouldn't be possible without my baseball idol: Coach Gopino. He pushed me and took me to tournaments and I wouldn't be here and be a part of the 2012 MLB Draft without him. He had a heart attack and passed away, but there isn't a person that I accredit my success to more than him. As far as teams go, I grew up watching the [Atlanta] Braves. I'd go to games with my dad and really loved watching them.
DiehardMagazine.com: What are your immediate plans now that you have been drafted by the Sox? Is it your intention to sign now and start your professional career immediately?
Rogers: I want to get stronger and keep improving. I want to compete immediately.
DiehardMagazine.com: Explain your emotions during this draft.
Rogers: I am just so honored. I'm thrilled and so happy. The Red Sox organization picked me and I am so grateful for this opportunity. I am beyond blessed.
