Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP: "I think he's the real deal. And I think the biggest question is going to be those side sessions—do they take their toll in the middle of the season? Will he be worn down or is he going to be OK to continue to pitch in August and September? He could be one of those guys that re-defines how much pitchers throw here in the States if he's able to stay healthy and pitch up to his capabilities all the way through the end of the year. Or will they have to make a modification to his throwing program?"

On the Red Sox' chances in the AL East: "They're the main competition for the Yankees. You have to give the Yankees the edge just because they won it the past nine years in the AL East. So I think you always have to go with the defending champions, I believe, unless there's been such a [drastic] change in their team, which I don't think there has [been]. But I think the Red Sox are the main competition, for sure. That should be really interesting. I think it's going to go down to the wire, like it normally does."
