Red Sox: The Sox were off Monday and will begin a six-game homestand tonight, when Jon Lester is scheduled to take the mound against the Blue Jays.
Triple-A Pawtucket: Sandy Madera hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBI and David Pauley had another impressive start as the PawSox edged Rochester, 8-6, in front of 2,840 in Rochester, NY. Madera has hit in each of the 11 games he's played—nine at Portland and two at Pawtucket—since he was signed out of an independent league by the Sox earlier this month. Jeff Bailey, Joe Thurston, Chris Carter, Jonathan Van Every and Gil Velazquez all had two hits apiece for the PawSox, who scored three runs apiece in the third and fourth. That was more than enough for Pauley, who allowed one run on six hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings in his first start since his big league cameo with the Sox six days earlier. Pauley has allowed one earned run or less in all four of his starts for the PawSox. Rochester stormed back against Edgar Martinez, who allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out one in 1 2/3 innings, but Jon Switzer threw a hitless inning and Lee Gronkiewicz allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one over 1 1/3 innings to record his fifth save. The PawSox will continue a three-game series at Rochester tonight, when Michael Tejera is scheduled to start.
Double-A Portland: The Sea Dogs were off Monday and will begin a six-game road trip tonight, when Dustin Richardson is scheduled to start against Bowie.
Single-A Lancaster: Lars Anderson went 4-for-4 with two homers and the JetHawks scored five runs in the seventh inning as they stormed back to beat Lake Elsinore, 8-6, in front of 913 in Lancaster, CA. Anderson, who hit two-run homers in the third and the seventh, has seven hits in his last 10 at-bats over his last three games. Reid Engel and Dennis Blackmon each had two hits and an RBI while Josh Reddick had a solo homer for the JetHawks, who received at least one hit from every starter. Blake Maxwell allowed one run on one hit and struck out one over three innings to earn the win for the JetHawks. Richie Lentz allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Chris Jones, put the JetHawks in a 4-0 hole in the second and was charged with four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. The JetHawks will host Rancho Cucamonga tonight, when Jaymie Russ is scheduled to start the opener of a three-game series against rehabbing big leaguer John Lackey.
Single-A Greenville: Mike Jones continued his torrid season with three doubles as he extended his hitting streak to 19 games, but three two-run innings weren't enough for the Drive, which left the bases loaded in the 10th inning as it fell to Hickory, 9-8, in front of 3,252 in Greenville, SC. Jones, who went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .419, had two RBI while Ty Weeden had two hits, including a two-run homer, and four RBI. Yamaico Navarro had two hits, including a solo homer. Joseph Guerra, the fourth Drive pitcher, took the loss after he allowed the go-ahead run on one hit and two walks in the 10th. Starter Terumaso Matsuo gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits while striking out three in four innings. In his last three starts, he's given up 15 earned runs on 24 hits in just 12 1/3 innings. Kyle Fernandes made his first appearance of the season for the Drive and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one in three innings. Ryne Lawson walked one and struck out two in two hitless innings. The Drive travel to Rome tonight for the start of a four-game series.
