The Padres are deep in talks with the Cardinals for outfielder Ryan Ludwick, tweets Tom Krasovic of AOL FanHouse. The Cardinals were not known to be willing to discuss Ludwick, but perhaps the strong play of Jon Jay swayed them.
Ludwick, 32, has settled at a level between his stellar '08 and disappointing '09 seasons
Come on Reds please make a move happen, the cards are getting better, and we're just sittin here hoping that some of our guys magically turn it around after being mediocre for 3 months. Need a good hitting outfielder and a bullpen arm if we're serious this year. If not, keep waiting for "prospects" to get it done, something we've been doing for years now.
10:58am:Krasovic tweets that the Padres like their chances of getting Ludwick as part of a three-team deal. The other team is apparently the Indians, who are close to sending Jake Westbrook to the Cards. The Padres would give up two prospects in this complicated exchange.
Call me crazy but Westbrook doesn't excite me....he is sub .500 career pitcher and 4 years removed from a good year. And Ludwick is a solid bat who is a plus outfielder, I would sure love to plug him into RF for us.....not sure how much this helps them.
Yeah. I don't like throwing aroud prospects, but I want a GM that will go for it when you can win. I just think we have to move a lot of our AAA guys in the next year or so. Most of them are blocked and we have better prospects in the lower levels. We MAY be able to get better players for the in trades over the winter, but we can make the playoffs NOW.
