He limited the Silver Hawks to two hits and a walk while punching out five without allowing a runner to advance past first. Three hits and three walks limited the 6'2" right hander's first appearance to four innings. He only allowed one run then and now has an early season 0.90 ERA/0.90 WHIP.
The 21 year-old was originally signed as a free agent out of Los Liano, DR. He is a veteran of the Dominican League where he started pitching at seventeen. Originally used in relief, he was converted to a starter in 2009 and proceeded to put up a 2.07 ERA over the next 20 appearances before moving to the Arizona Rookie League by the end of 2010. His K/BB ratio was slightly below 2 over that period. In 2011 he had a 3.83 ERA in 10 starts at Billings which would have ranked second in the league had his 49 IP qualified. It appears that his control is coming along as he develops because last season he had 55K with only 12 BB and 1 HBP.
Quezada throw a low-90's fastball and induces ground balls on half of his in-play outs. Though he has yet to appear on any top prospect lists his performance in the Dominican League earned his trip stateside and he's ascending through the Reds organization. The Pioneer League named him honorable mention to its All Star team last year and with continued success we could see him at high-A Bakersfield by the end of the season.
