The Dodgers had been written off in their pursuit of Zack Greinke just days ago, but are now the proud possessors of their very own brand new ace. Multiple sources have reported that the Dodgers have agreed to terms with Greinke on a 6 year, $147 million contract on Saturday. The deal is pending a physical.
Greinke, who pitched for Milwaukee and the Angels last season, posted a 3.48 ERA with 200 strikeouts in 212.1 innings. The 29 won the Cy Young award in 2009, also making the All Star team that year, his only time being voted to the midsummer classic.
Once the deal is finalized, Greinke will become the highest paid right-handed pitcher in baseball history. His AAV (Average Annual Value) is also the highest for any pitcher. This puts the Dodgers' payroll over $200 million for 2013.
An in-depth analysis of the deal will be posted once the contract is official.
