The misspelling of Troy Tulowitzki’s jersey and the retirement of Todd Helton’s may have grabbed most of the headlines this past month for the Colorado Rockies, but second-year left fielder Corey Dickerson has been ripping his open and exposing the Superman logo underneath, at least for the past seven days.
In that span, Dickerson has led the Majors in total bases (24), extra-base hits (7), has grounded into zero double plays and driven in a big-league-best 11 runs in 30 plate appearances. He’s knocked in a run more frequently than most of the league has gotten aboard safely with a hit.
In seven games over the past week, Dickerson has gone 11-for-28 (.393) with four doubles (the second-most in the Major Leagues), and slugged three home runs – also second in the bigs.
Dickerson’s slugging percentage -- .857 – was fourth in Major League Baseball over the past seven days, while his 1.257 OPS was good for seventh, behind the San Francisco Giants’ Mike Morse, who leads both categories, and who only played in five games and had 17 plate appearances.
Dickerson capped off his week with a 4-for-9 day in Sunday’s split doubleheader, slugging his 23rd and 24th doubles of the year, along with a home run, driving in five runs as the Rockies swept the Reds out of Denver.
