Rockies Prospect Power Rankings

Here is the first installment of the brand new Prospect Power Rankings. In this feature, which will run every ten days, we rank the top-25 prospect right now. It is not a list of the best prospects in the organization, but rather who is playing the best right now.

1 Joe Koshansky CSP Koshansky has been the run producer the Sky Sox were hoping he would be this season, blasting an organizational-best 17 home runs.  He is also batting .320 and has driven in and organizational-best 85 runs. Rising
2 Brandon Hynick MOD Hynick has been the best starter in the Rockies farm system this season, leading the organization in earned run average with a 2.33 mark.  He has also won 12 of his 14 decisions, and is third in the system in strikeouts. Rising
3 Seth Smith CSP The top hitter in the Rockies farm system this season, Seth Smith has been solid with the bat all season long.  His .331 batting average leads all other Rockies Minor Leaguers, and he has averaged well over a hit per game. Rising
4 Michael Paulk ASH Paulk has been a beast with the lumber during the 2007 season, and he has really been on fire since the beginning of the year.  Overall, Paulk has a .320 batting average in 96 games, and is one of the top home run, and run producers in the system. Rising
5 Alan Johnson MOD Johnson is one of a handful of Rockies pitching prospects with double-digit wins this season, and continues to get better everytime out.  Overall, Johnson has won ten games, and is second in the organization with a 2.82 earned run average. Rising
6 Sean Barker CSP Barker is another member of Colorado Springs who is tearing it up with the lumber this season, trailing only teammate Seth Smith for the organizational lead in batting.  His .330 mark has been a great surprise, as have been his 86 hits in 72 games. Rising
7 Eric Young Jr. MOD Word to the wise: Do Not Let This Kid Get On Base.  Once again, Young Jr. is one of the top base stealers in all of Minor League Baseball, and leads the organization with 53 swipes. Steady
8 Franklin Morales TUL One of the best young arms in the Rockies farm system, Morales has been a beast for the Tulsa Drillers this season, and is developing into one of the top pitching prospects in Minor League Baseball.  Rising
9 Keith Weiser ASH Weiser has been the ace of the Asheville Tourist pitching staff in 2007, and is currently second in the organization with 11 wins.  Overall, Weiser is fourth among full-season players in earned run average, and has thrown over 120 innings this season. Rising
10 Steven Register TUL The top closer prospect in the Rockies organization, Register has been closing the door all season long for the Drillers.  Overall, Register has 29 saves on the season, three better than the second place guy. Rising
11 Aneury Rodriguez ASH One thing is for sure: Aneury Rodriguez can strike out batters with the best of them.  Incredible, at only the halfway point of the season, Rodriguez has already notched over 100 strikeouts. Rising
12 Daniel Mayora ASH As far as batting averages go, Mayora is having one of the better seasons of anyone in the Rockies farms system.  At press time, Mayora is in sole position of third place in the system in batting, hitting at a .322 clip this season. Rising
13 Chris Nelson MOD To say this kid is living up to expectations would be an understatement, as the versatile Nelson is putting together an incredible season for Modesto.  His 13 home runs and 68 runs batted in are good for third in the system in both categories. Blazing
14 Clint Barmes CSP Barmes is doing everything he can to get back to the Major Leagues, and has really been a class act.  He also is one of the better sticks in the Rockies farm system, batting .308 in 83 games for the Sky Sox. Steady
15 Christian Colonel TUL Colonel has been having a great season in Double-A this season, which is one of the levels that makes or breaks prospects.  He is batting .307 for the Tulsa Drillers thus far in 2007, which is seventh-best amongst Rockies farmhands. Rising
16 Ryan Speier CSP When you talk saves in the Rockies farm system, only two names really are prevalent this season.  Steven Register, and Ryan Speier.  Speier has been amazing for Colorado Springs this season, notching 26 saves. Steady
17 Andrew Graham ASH Graham has been a strikeout machine for the Asheville Tourists this season, whiffing 99 batters.  His currently strikeout total is the second-best mark among Rockies pitching prospects. Steady
18 Ian Stewart CSP Stewart is another guy who is trying to prove to the Rockies that he belongs in the Major Leagues, and he has been letting his bat do the talking.  He is currently hitting over .300 for Colorado Springs, and is one of a few prospects with 100+ hits this season. Steady
19 Jeff Kindel MOD Not many Modesto Nuts are hitting well this season, but Kindel is one of a handful of prospects who appears locked in at the plate.  He is batting a very respectable .298 for the Rockies High-A affiliate, and is nearing the 100 hit plateau. Rising
20 Joe Gaetti CSP Gaetti has some good power in his bat, and is one of the better power hitting prospects in the Rockies organization.  He is currently second in the system in home runs, as his 13 dingers have him right on Koshansky's heals. Steady
21 Anthony Jackson ASH To say Jackson has wheels would be an understatement, and he is blazing up the stolen base leaderboard for the Tourists.  He currently has 28 stolen bases this season, though he is way behind leader Eric Young Jr. Rising
22 Michael McKenry ASH McKenry may lack some plate discipline this early in his professional career, but he makes up for it with power.  He currently is fourth in the organization in home runs, and is fifth in runs batted in. Rising
23 Dexter Fowler MOD Fowler is one of the better position player prospects in the Rockies organization, though he is not having a breakout season this year.  However, he has shown the ability to swipe a bag, currently ranking fourth in the system with 20 stolen bases. Steady
24 Ubaldo Jimenez CSP Getting out Triple-A batters is not an easy thing to do, especially considering a majority of them have spent time in the Major Leagues.  Not only is Jimenez getting them out, but he is notching outs via the strikeout with 89 already this season. Steady
25 Daniel Carte MOD The best hitter on the Modesto roster in the 2007 season, Carte is the only Nut who is batting over .300 currently.  He has also been a great run producer for the team, driving in 61 of his teammates, which is fifth best in the system. Rising
