Batter of the Month
Christian Colonel, Utility
Colonel hit the ball all month long, finishing May with a .382 batting average, while playing multiple positions for the Sky Sox. Colonel, in his first season with the Sky Sox, played first base, second base, third base, and outfield, but made most of his starts in the outfield. In total, Colonel appeared in 23 games, scored 16 times, and racked up 29 base hits.
As a team, the Sky Sox hit at an impressive .287 clip, as Colonel was one of three regulars to bat over .300 for the month. He also had ten doubles, drove in 13, and walked nine times. Colonel ended the month with a nine-game hitting streak that he will take into June, and has doubled in six of his last eight games.
Pitcher of the Month
Matt Daley, Relief Pitcher
As a team, the Sky Sox had an earned run average of 5.32, so it was hard to find our Pitcher of the Month for May. However, Matt Daley was very effective out of the bullpen for Colorado Springs, posting a 1.29 earned run average in 13 appearances. After struggling in April after a call up from Double-A Tulsa, Daley really appeared locked in this past month, and Colorado Springs is hoping that trend continues.
He began the month with a string of eight scoreless outings, sometimes having to go more than one inning. In 13 total appearances, Daley only allowed an earned run in two games, and did not allow more than one run in any appearance. In total, batters hit only .178 against him.
