Baumann latest Natural added to All-Star team

The Texas League on Friday named NW Arkansas southpaw Buddy Baumann to the North Division All-Star Team. Baumann will join five of his Naturals teammates in San Antonio next Wednesday as the North battles the South in the annual Texas League All-Star Game.

Buddy Baumann has appeared in 16 games for the Naturals this season, compiling a 3-2 record with a 3.58 ERA. The versatile southpaw began the 2011 season as a reliever, but he's been a regular in the NW Arkansas rotation since late May. As a starter this season, the 23-year-old is 3-0 with a stellar 1.85 ERA. Over the entire season, Baumann has fanned 52 batters in 55.1 innings while holding opponents to a .250 batting average.

Baumann was originally selected by the Royals in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. The Missouri State alum last season was named as the Royals' Mike Sweeney Award winner, which recognizes the player who best represents the organization both on and off the field. Earlier this season, the young left-hander was named the Texas League Player of the Week for the period covering May 23-29.

Baumann is the latest Natural added to the Texas League All-Star roster. When the teams were originally announced on June 14, utilityman Anthony Seratelli and catcher Salvador Perez were the only NW Arkansas representatives named to the team. In the days since, outfielder Wil Myers, infielder Jeff Bianchi, and reliever Kelvin Herrera have all been added to the North Division roster, thanks to a couple of injuries and a promotion.
