Perez and Herrera promoted to Omaha

The Kansas City Royals on Wednesday promoted a pair of exciting prospects to the Omaha Royals. NW Arkansas catcher Salvador Perez and right-handed reliever Kelvin Herrera are scheduled to join the club within the next day.

The Royals promoted NW Arkansas catcher Salvador Perez and his battery mate, Kelvin Herrera, to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. The 21-year-old catcher has moved up quickly in the organization, thanks largely to his excellent defensive skills; however, his bat has been equally impressive at NW Arkansas, where he hit .283 with nine homers and 43 RBIs in 79 games.

Herrera, 21, will join Perez in Omaha after posting a 4-0 record with 7 saves and a 1.75 ERA for the Naturals. The hard-throwing right-hander finished his stint at Double-A with 40 strikeouts in 36 innings spread out over 23 games.

With the two promotions, the Royals made room by reassigning catcher Manny Pina and pitcher Mario Santiago to NW Arkansas. Pina was hitting at a .241 clip with 16 RBIs, while Santiago posted a 3-3 record with a 5.70 ERA for the Storm Chasers.
