Fields Homers in Erie Win (5/4 Recaps)

Unlike the previous handful of games in which Erie has jumped out to a big lead behind excellent hitting the SeaWolves found themselves trailing Altoona 3-2 going into the ninth inning. The great hitting continued, though, as Erie pulled together to runs to win on Saturday. West Michigan was also on the winning end against Quad Cities while Toledo and Lakeland fell short.

A low-scoring battle pushed Toledo and Charlotte into extra innings on Saturday with a Charlotte run in the thirteenth making the difference as the Mud Hens fell 2-1. Jose Alvarez earned a no decision in the start despite giving up no earned runs on six hits and striking out six in seven innings of work. Kenny Faulk took the loss in relief, giving up the go-ahead run on one hit in 2 ? innings on the mound. Jordan Lennerton was the lone Toledo hitter to drive in a run on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with an RBI in the loss.

Erie fell behind Altoona 3-2 going into the ninth inning of Saturday's game but scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to top the Curve 4-3. Starting pitcher Warwick Saupold earned a no decision in his start, giving up two earned runs on three hits while striking out eight batters in six innings. Reliever Michael Morrison improved his record to 2-1 with the win, shutting out Altoona over 1 ? innings. Tyler Collins continued to be a force offensively on Saturday, notching his seventh home run of the season on a 1-for-3 night in which he also drew a walk. Daniel Fields also hit a solo home run in the win.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
11-16, 6th in North Division

After being down only 1-0 going into the sixth inning Lakeland gave up 10 runs to Daytona over the next three innings, falling to the Cubs 11-5. Wilsen Palacios' record fell to 1-3 in the start, giving up four earned runs on four hits in six innings of work. Jason Krizan had a solid night for the Flying Tigers, hitting a home run and driving in two runs in the loss. Jason King also drove in two runs for Lakeland.

13-14, 4th in Eastern Division

A four-run fifth inning by West Michigan gave the Whitecaps a lead they wouldn't surrender against Quad Cities as the ‘Caps topped the River Bandits 7-4 on Saturday. Yorfrank Lopez improved his record to 3-1 in earning the win, giving up four earned runs on four hits in his five-inning start. Jose Valdez earned his fifth save of the year in the win. Zach Kirksey had a solid night offensively for West Michigan, driving in two runs on a 1-for-4 night in which he also notched a triple. Devon Travis also had an RBI on a 2-for-3 night with a run scored.
