RC Organizational Report: August 8

The organization had another winning day on Wednesday, as the five clubs in action combined to go 3-2 on the night. In High-A, Daniel Cortes pitched seven shutout innings for the victorious Blue Rocks, while the Burlington Royals took a close one in extra innings. The Omaha Royals were stomped on Wednesday, 9-0. Billy Buckner was hurt by his defense and allowed five runs (three earned) in six innings of work. Shane Costa went 2-for-4 with a double, extending his on-base streak to 46 games. Ryan Shealy, in his last game officially on rehab, went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

The Wichita Wranglers coughed up a lead late and ended up losing in extra innings, 10-8. Jarod Plummer suffered the loss for the second straight game, giving up a walk off homer to end the game. Onil Joseph was the offensive star for the Wranglers on Wednesday night, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI's.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks improved their second half record to 29-16 with a 6-2 win over Winston-Salem. Dan Cortes tossed a gem, scattering three hits and walking only two over seven scoreless innings. Brian McFall led the Blue Rock offense with a 3-for-4 night. McFall is absolutely on fire right now, batting .483 with three home runs in his last eight games.

The Burlington Royals pulled it out in extra innings on Wednesday, 3-2. Every run scored in the game's first nine innings came by way of solo home runs. Wilson Tucker went 3-for-6 with his eighth home run of the season, and Jake Lane went 2-for-5 with a double and a walk. Brett Amyx came to life with a 3-for-4 evening, boosting his average back up to .254.

The AZL Royals scored all five runs in the first two innings, and that's all they needed in a 5-4 win over the Cubs. Matthew Mitchell pitched well for 4.2 innings, but reliever John Foster couldn't pick him up in the fifth inning, as he allowed two inherited runners to score. Lifete Jose went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, his fourth swipe of the season. Williams Farinas picked up the save with three innings of one-run ball to end it.
