RC Organizational Report: April 29

The Burlington Bees and Wilmington Blue Rocks were off on Thursday, but both the NW Arkansas Naturals and Omaha Royals prevailed. Ernesto Mejia slammed two home runs for the Naturals as Aaron Crow picked up his first professional win. Read all about the day's minor league action inside.

AAA: Omaha 11, Iowa 7 (F6)

W: Carlos Rosa (2-1, 3.65)
HR: Kila Ka'aihue (6)

The Royals torched Cubs pitching for 11 hits and held on to win in a rain-shortened game, 11-7. Rains prompted the contest to end after five and a half innings. Kila Ka'aihue clubbed his team-leading sixth home run of the year; he also hit a double and collected four RBI's to give him a club-best 18 on the year. Mike Aviles had three hits, and Jai Miller went 2-for-3 in his first game for the O-Royals. Rehabbing second baseman Chris Getz went 0-for-2 with two walks in his second minor league game with Omaha.

Starter Gaby Hernandez only went 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and four walks while giving up four runs to the Cubs. Carlos Rosa came in and surrendered three runs over 1.2 innings, but he managed to complete the top-half of the sixth before the umpires called the game because of the weather.

Luis Mendoza is scheduled to make his debut for Omaha as a starter tomorrow night against the Iowa Cubs. While the four-game set began in Omaha, the remaining three games of the series will be played in Des Moines, thanks to a scheduling quirk relating to Omaha's hosting of the College World Series.

AA: NW Arkansas 9, Springfield 2

W: Aaron Crow (1-1, 3.94)
HR: Ernesto Meija 2 (3)

Aaron Crow pitched eight strong innings and Ernesto Meija cranked two home runs as the Naturals steamrolled the Cardinals, 9-2. Crow picked up his first professional win after surrendering just two runs on six hits and a walk while fanning six. The outing was arguably Crow's most dominant start to date.

With the game tied 2-2, the Naturals' offense exploded in the ninth inning, sending ten batters to the plate while scoring seven runs. Meija slugged his second home run of the game with two outs in the ninth, a three-run jack that capped the scoring and put the game out reach for Springfield. Meija and Clint Robinson both went 2-for-5, and Mike Moustakas slammed a double in a 1-for-5 effort.

NW Arkansas took three of four from the Cardinals, and the two clubs are now tied for first place in the Texas League North Division. The Naturals now move to North Little Rock, where they'll kick-off a four game series on Friday against the Arkansas Travelers.
