RC Organizational Report: June 1

While Monday's minor league results were disappointing, Tuesday's were excellent for Royals fans. All three of the organization's affiliates that were in action on Tuesday won. The O-Royals' offense paved the way for the club's ninth win in its last 10 games, and John Lamb delivered another beautiful start as the Wilmington Blue Rocks prevailed over Kinston, 3-2. The O-Royals hit the ball well Tuesday, putting 20 runners on base in their 9-2 victory over the Zephyrs. Alex Gordon went 2-for-4, clubbing a double and a home run, and Irving Falu went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Kurt Mertins was 2-for-5 with two doubles, and Marc Maddox went 2-for-5. David Lough hit his fifth home run of the year, and Kila Ka'aihue went 1-for-3 with two walks.

Gaby Hernandez threw seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. Matt Herges pitched a scoreless eighth, and Josh Rupe struck out the side to end the game.

Omaha continues their series against New Orleans Wednesday night.

John Lamb pitched well in his third start for Wilmington, allowing one run in six innings as the Blue Rocks beat the Indians, 3-2. Lamb only allowed four hits and punched out seven batters. Patrick Keating earned the win by pitching the next 2.1 innings, allowing one run in the ninth, and Barry Bowden got the final two outs of the game to earn his fifth save on the year.

On offense, Eric Hosmer broke out his mini-slump by going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, and Jamar Walton went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Nick Francis hit his first home run of the year, and Rey Navarro smacked a triple and drove in a run.

Wilmington plays the final game of their series against Kinston Wednesday night.

Burlington scored four runs in the top of the ninth, leading them past Western Michigan for an 8-4 victory. Joey Lewis was 3-for-5 on the day, while Carlo Testa, Deivy Batista, and Juan Graterol all went 2-for-5. J.D. Alfaro went 2-for-5 with a double and run scored, and Rene Oriental went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Wil Myers was the only Bee to go hitless, going 0-for-4 with a walk.

Matt Mitchell pitched five innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits. The righthander struggled with his control, walking five batters and only recording one strikeout. Ryan Dennick and Onassis Sirrett combined to shut-out the Whitecaps over the final four frames.

The Bees play the second game of their series against the Whitecaps on Wednesday.
