RC Organizational Report: August 10

Tuesday was a rough day for the Royals' minor league system. With Northwest Arkansas off and the Burlington Bees rained out, the Omaha Royals were the day's only victor. Wilmington and the three rookie ball clubs all lost their games. Click inside to read the day's full minor league report.

AAA: Omaha 6, Tacoma 4

W: Gaby Hernandez (9-6, 5.39)
HR: Scott Thorman (16)

David Lough and Jai Miller both had three hits, helping the O-Royals defeat the Rainiers, 6-4. Scott Thorman went yard for the O-Royals, and Lucas May added a double. Matt Herges tossed the first four frames, allowing two runs on four hits before Gaby Hernandez relieved him and allowed one run on three hits over 1.1 innings of work. Federico Castaneda gave up just a solo home run while fanning seven in 2.2 innings, and Josh Rupe closed the game out by tossing a scoreless ninth for his eighth save on the season.

Omaha wraps up its series against Tacoma Wednesday night.

High-A: Winston -Salem 5, Wilmington 4

L: Ivor Hodgson (5-9, 4.28)

Three errors led to two unearned runs, as the Blue Rocks lost a close one to the Dash, 5-4. Bryan Paukovits pitched the first four innings, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out five before Ivor Hodgson relieved him and gave up two unearned over the next four frames. Ryan Dennick tossed a shutout top of the ninth. On offense, Nick Francis went 3-for-4 with a double, while Wil Myers had two hits, including a double.

Wilmington continues its series against Winston-Salem Wednesday.

Rookie: Casper 12, Idaho Falls 4

L: Greg Billo (3-5, 4.67)

The Chukars were routed on Wednesday, falling 12-4 to the Casper Ghosts. Greg Billo gave up four runs on six hits while fanning six in five innings of work before he was lifted for Chad Blauer, who allowed four runs on three hits over the next two frames. Alex Rivers gave up four runs and six hits over the final two innings. At the plate, Geulin Beltre went 3-for-4 with a triple, while Lane Adams contributed a double.

Idaho Falls plays the third game of its four-game series against Casper Wednesday night.

Rookie: Johnson City 4, Burlington 2

L: Robbie Penny (1-1, 1.97)

A four-run fifth pushed the game out of reach for the Burlington Royals, as they lost 4-2 to the Johnson City Cardinals. Robbie Penny allowed two runs on seven hits over four innings before he was relieved by Cole Lohden, who gave up two runs on three hits over the next 1.2 frames. Claudio Bavera and J.J. Leaper held the Cardinals scoreless over the final 2.1 innings. On offense, Ryan Jenkins went 2-for-3 with a double, while Luis Piterson and Yunior Figueroa cracked doubles.

Burlington finishes its series Wednesday against Johnson City.

Rookie: AZL Dodgers 5, AZL Royals 4

L: Jorge Soto (0-1, 4.97)

The AZL Royals squandered a four-run lead Wednesday, falling apart over the final three innings to lose 5-4 to the AZL Dodgers. The rehabbing Tim Melville tossed three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while ringing up five batters. Cole White and Eric Diaz held the Dodgers scoreless for the next three frames, but Jorge Soto allowed five runs on four hits to end the game. At the plate, Cameron Conner roped a triple and drove in three runs, while Alexander Marquez went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

The AZL Royals have Wednesday off before squaring off against the AZL Giants.
